Frequently Asked Questions

Sleep training can feel challenging, and it’s normal to have doubts. Below are answers to the questions I hear most from parents considering infant sleep consulting. If your question isn’t listed, you can always book a free discovery call to chat directly.

What is the Sleep Sense™ approach, and how will you use it with my baby?

The Sleep Sense™ program is a gentle, evidence-based method that teaches babies to fall asleep independently while keeping parents closely involved. I’ll work with you to create a plan that respects your baby’s age, temperament, and your family’s comfort level, so you stay present and responsive throughout the process.

Is sleep training the same as "cry it out"?

No. Traditional “cry it out” methods involve leaving a baby alone until they fall asleep, which is not what we do. With the Sleep Sense™ approach you’ll offer comfort and reassurance while gradually helping your baby learn independent sleep skills.

Will sleep training harm my bond with my baby?

Not at all. Your bond is built through the love and care you give every day. Teaching your baby to sleep well often strengthens your relationship — because you’re both more rested.

Will my baby cry during sleep training?

Crying is how babies express frustration with change, so some tears are normal. You’ll always respond in a way that’s loving and consistent. The goal isn’t to ignore your baby — it’s to guide them as they learn a new skill with your support.

At what age can I start formal sleep training?

Most babies are ready around 4–6 months. At this stage, they can start learning self-soothing and independent sleep skills, settling back to sleep on their own without relying on rocking, feeding, or being held. Babies younger than 4 months usually aren’t developmentally ready for structured sleep training.

Can sleep training work if my baby still breastfeeds at night?

Yes. Night feeds can continue as needed, and we’ll create a plan that balances nutrition with teaching independent sleep skills.

What about naps? Do you train for those too?

Absolutely. Nap routines are part of the plan — consistency during the day supports better night sleep and overall rest.

How does the plan work if we room-share or travel?

Sleep training can succeed in shared rooms or while travelling. I’ll give you practical adjustments for your space, plus tips for hotels, jet lag, and maintaining routines on the go.

How long does sleep training usually take?

Every baby is unique, but many families notice significant improvements within about two weeks—sometimes sooner when the plan is followed consistently.
